Graphics Cards

The new AMD Radeon R7 240, R7 250, R7 260X, R9 270X and R9 280X arrive

Today was the day chosen by AMD to officially launch a large part of its new range of graphics cards, releasing the new nomenclature for the names of each model. Although we will still have to wait for the highest range, with the R9 290 and R9 290X leading the way, this time we will first have the low, medium and medium-high ranges.

The range R7 arrives with the 240, 250 and 260X, the first two models are positioned as the input range of dedicated graphics, ideal for teams looking for graphics performance superior to integrated solutions, while the R7 260X it would already be considered a graphics for games. Among the manufacturers that have already presented models of these graphics are PowerColor with versions with Direct Overclock as standard, with maximum GPU speeds of 800, 1100 and 1160 MHz respectively and 1800, 4600 and 6600 MHz for the memories. Sapphire It has also launched models with reference speed but with custom cooling.

ASUS taIt has also presented two models of the 250 and 240 with a small format and personalized cooling, however the one that stands out the most is the R7 260X in its version DirectCU II OC with 2GB of 7000MHz RAM, and up to 1188MHZ core speed. MSI is not far behind with its own AMD R7 series designs as well.

Going up to models that are already placed in the higher than average range, we have the series R9 with the 270X and 280X, GPUs with a reference speed of 1,050 and 1,000 GHz respectively for the GPU and 5,600 and 6,000 MHZ for its RAM memory, which can be 2 or 4 Gb in the case of the 270X when carrying a 256-Bit data bus and of 3 GB for the R9 280X when having 384-bits. We must not forget that except for the upcoming R9 290 chips, the R9 270X and R9 280X models are an evolution of the existing chips in the Radeon HD 7000 series, for example with the R9 280X we would be facing a somewhat vitaminized version of the Radeon HD 7970 GHz EditionThat is, at a lower price, so we would obtain a similar performance at a lower cost.

The vast majority of graphics builders with AMD chips have released custom models of these two GPUs, so we have a large catalog to choose from.

In alphabetical order, we start with ASUS and its DirectCU II TOP range known for its improved copper-based cooling systems and direct contact of the heatpipes with the surface of the chip. Apart from the R7 260X that we already discussed in this series, the R9 270X and 280X models come with a speed of 2600 and 6400 MHz for RAM while the GPU operates at 1120 MHz and 1070 MHz respectively. They include tools like GPU Tweak to overclock, something simple with a dissipation system like DCII.

In a higher step we have the ASUS ROG MATRIX R9 280XWith a bulkier dissipation system with double 100mm fan, manual voltage control, and a high performance mode at the push of a button, the VRM’s DIGI + voltage control system can significantly increase the resistance of the graph. to the OC and the useful life of the card. It will be released on October 11

Sapphire, one of AMD’s largest partners in the graphics market, has also launched the entire range of R7 and R9, with models within the series Vapor-X with improvements in cooling and design, the series Dual-X y la Toxic with higher speeds. Powercolor is also joined by two models with custom heatsink but reference speeds for the 280X and 40MHZ more in GPU Boost mode.

Another company that has already announced its cards based on the new R9 series is Club3D, with “RoyalQueen” and RoyalKing “versions with standard overclocking and double ventilation. MSI also includes in its gaming series range the R9 270 HAWK with fan Twin Frozr IV y la R280X Gaming.
