The adventure is divided between 3 protagonists: Dante, Nero and V. These last two serve as an introduction to the game and therefore share the first half of the chapters.

Their own styles constitute an appetizer that reaches its climax when we meet Dante, the iconic hero. More powerful than ever, he finds himself facing even more dangerous enemies.

The missions dedicated to V and Nero are ideal for familiarizing yourself with gameplay enriched by various weapons and abilities. Thanks to this, the game brings a constant feeling of renewal and therefore, a reduced risk of fatigue. This feeling is reinforced by the alternation between the characters and their own styles.

The Special Edition also includes a 4th character: Vergil. With its more technical gameplay, it should delight fans of the license. This also adds a difficulty mode called “Legendary Dark Knight” which allows you to face even larger hordes.

But sometimes, the decor will push you to flee so as not to be buried by the collapse of these paintings which always amaze you.

The environments vary with areas ranging from desert to mountains to beaches and forests. The exploration is also very different with various gameplay ideas allowing constant renewal.

The game is a little more accessible than the first opus but remains pleasant to handle. It arises as a great adventure delivering the same sensations as at the exit of Ori and the Blind Forest with a welcome touch of modernity.

After several opus centered on the usual antagonists of the license, Yakuza decides to review his recipe by focusing on a newcomer. Ichiban Kasuga poses as a touching and eccentric hero, driven by a strong sense of justice.

Oscillating between seriousness and humor, the tone of the game is intended to be faithful to previous opus while retaining a strong inspiration drawn from gangster cinema, both in terms of the cast and the artistic direction.

The decor, on the other hand, changes drastically. Exit Tokyo and Osaka, we now find ourselves in Yokohama, in the district of Isezaki Ijincho, faithfully reproduced for the occasion. It is full of life and activities, as usual.

The gameplay has been completely revised and is now oriented towards the RPG with tactical turn-based combat, emphasizing strategy above all. Rest assured, the sense of the epic and comical of this universe remains very present.

Small flip side, this orientation has the usual default of the RPG: it is necessary to farm to increase in power. Your different heroes will thus gain experience and learn new professions (similar to the notion of class) and skills.

It will therefore be necessary to balance your team in order to defeat your enemies and progress in the adventure.

In the end, the game is a real success and continues the momentum of previous games while blowing a welcome wind of novelty on the franchise.

A reissue of the eponymous game, Ultimate is a complete edition incorporating all the additional content released during its year of life while improving the overall rendering by leveraging the power of Microsoft’s new console.

The base game was already a great title with rich and generous content. The storyline itself is well fleshed out for a fighting game with a story revisiting 27 years of Mortal Kombat in an alternate timeline based on the pitch of the last episodes. It is therefore accessible to regulars and neophytes alike.

On the other hand, there are only a few innovations and we should therefore not expect any surprises on this side. Fortunately, this is not a fault because the original gameplay is quite interesting with the usual Fatalities, even more bloody and brutal than usual.

To enjoy it, you will have access to no less than 37 “kombattants” including a few characters from famous licenses: Rambo, Robocop, the Joker or even Spawn.

As a bonus, this reworked version adds some graphic details with a much finer rendering both in terms of outfits and the environment and 4K compatibility. Loading times are also reduced thanks to the much faster storage.

The developers claim the largest and most vertical Halo world there is, based on what they envisioned in 2000, at a time when technology limited the possibilities way too much.
