However, it will be necessary to deal with keys that are a little too narrow for large hands and a sensitivity that can cause some wrong maneuvers at the beginning.

Steelseries Apex Pro (An excellent high end, dispensable features):  if you have a high budget and want a customizable product, the Apex Pro is a good solution. Whether via the dedicated program or via the physical equipment (adjustable omnipoint switches), you can adapt it to your needs. Small bonus, it has an OLED screen that can display information about your game. However, these features are dispensable for ordinary players, which explains its position in this section.

Best Gaming Keyboards Put to Test

Testing a good gaming keyboard is a fairly straightforward thing to do. 

First of all, upon unpacking, we analyzed the design and materials of the various products. We also checked the quality of other elements such as the cable or the wrist rest, if it was provided.

Next, we connected the best gaming keyboard to our test computer to move on to the setup step. After a little getting started with the dedicated software, we created a specific profile made up of macros (when they were available), personalized lighting and a few remapped keys.

Finally, comes the stage of the real test with a 30-minute game session followed by a few minutes of typing to check the comfort, ergonomics and responsiveness of the different gaming keyboards. 

Once these 3 steps were completed, we compiled the data and defined which models should appear in our selection. 

BUYING GUIDE

With the development of e-sport, equipment at the cutting edge of technology is emerging more and more. Headsets , mice , keyboards or even armchairs specially dedicated to gamers abound on the market.

However, you don’t have to be a professional gamer to enjoy the experience of the best gaming keyboard.

But between the numerous models and configurations offered on the market, you’d like being sure that you’re making the right choice, right?

For that, firstly it is necessary to know that two main types of gaming keyboards are available to players:

• Membrane gaming keyboards : they use a layer of silicone to change the impedance of a printed circuit. Their advantages are their price, and the fact that they are silent. But they have a shorter lifespan and are slower than the best mechanical gaming keyboard (key feedback is weaker, and therefore general typing is slower), which makes them less suitable for fast and precise gaming.
• Best Mechanical Gaming keyboards : they use a spring loaded micro switch for each key. Their advantages are quite numerous: comfort, speed (the return of the keys is faster and more constant), precision (the noise made by the key shows us whether or not it was actually pressed), durability (if a key no longer works and many more.They are, however, louder and more expensive. In addition to this, you should know that the best mechanical gaming keyboards include switches (switches located under the keys that modify the sensitivity to typing).

These switches are either linear , which means that their resistance is formed only by their spring, or tactile , that is to say with a resistance at mid-height allowing to feel the moment when the pressure is taken into account , allowing a less light but more assured strike. Here are the main ones:

• Cherry MX Red : they are linear. Since the force required to press the keys is constant, it is not necessary to crush the key, which allows a fast typing speed, but does not allow any errors. It is undoubtedly one of the switches most used in gaming keyboards, because it does not offer resistance. 
• Cherry MX Black : Linear too, they offer more resistance than MX Reds and are popular for games where you often have to spam a key.
• Cherry MX Blue : it is of the tactile type, but with an audible click (it is also said of the “clicky” type). There is thus a small obstacle to pressing the button which distinguishes “on” from “off”. Slightly noisier, it is often less recommended for gaming. It will be preferred for typing, unless you are looking for precision above all.
• The Cherry MX Brown : it is tactile, but without audible click. It is perhaps the most versatile between typing and gaming.
• The Cherry MX Speed : as its name suggests, it is the one that allows the fastest typing speed. It is indeed a very flexible linear keyboard, like the MX Red, but with activation of the key 0.5 mm higher. This results in very sensitive keys. It is therefore not recommended for those who make a lot of typing errors.
• Cherry MX Silent : this is a version of Cherry Red or Black, but where the sag has been reworked to be silent.
• Proprietary switches: often inspired by the models above, they were developed by a specific brand for its own products. As you will see in the rest of this article, Logitech and Razer are two good examples.

Knowing all this, it is necessary, prior to your purchase, to examine the following parameters:

• Comfort : if you plan to spend many hours on your PC, watch for the presence of a wrist rest, this will prevent you from various pains such as tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome. Some models offer a detachable wrist rest, which allows you to easily switch between configurations.
• Macro keys : these are programmable keys, very important in gaming to create shortcuts. Depending on the type of game you play (RPG, for example), they are even essential. They must be present in sufficient number, and be placed intelligently to maintain the ergonomics of the keyboard and juggle smoothly between normal keys and macros. Otherwise, the keyboard must at least have software that can configure macros on the standard keys.
• RGB (or RGB) : this customizable backlighting allows you to select from 16.8 million colors. While it was originally started as a reaction to the off-putting white of a standard backlight (essential for playing in dim light), it is sometimes developed today to warn you of certain parameters (the keyboard takes on a color different depending on the temperature of your graphics card, for example, saving you a lot of trouble). Used well, so it can be useful.
• Anti-ghosting : ghosting is a phenomenon that occurs when the keyboard controller is not able to interpret pressing several keys at the same time. In terms of gaming, this is prohibitive, because it prevents certain combinations from being made.
